Poinsettia plants are a potted plant native to Mexico and are very popular at Christmas here in the UK.

The red flowers on poinsettias look like flowers but they actually brightly coloured leaves called bracts.

To get more red blooms after the initial display has died off the plants need to have around 2 months of long, dark nights in the early spring.
